Cat Kingdom

In the Cat Kingdom there are simple rules to be followed: the first hunting task is performed by the queen herself, the second is performed by the human being (say: maintenance of death prisoners before their time comes…).

The House of Animals

Once upon a time there was a house of animals. After the human race was extinguished the animals took over. They inhabited abounded houses. Life was full of joy and happiness. New stories were written on the blue planet: animal stories where life was so very different from earlier, human times…

New Year 2013

Everything new is full of surprises, so will be the new year 2013. Let’s welcome all of them, let’s welcome change and take it as a chance. It’s great what all can happen in the new year: everything is possible… a family from another planet could visit us and enjoy riding a giraffe…

Cow in an Icy Swimming Pool

Recently I saw a funny picture in the internet: a cow standing in a frozen and icy swimming pool. It really looked strange and somehow funny. Around the swimming pool there were several firemen trying to “rescue” the cow. I was wondering what the story was about.

The cow escaped on her way to the butcher and fled into that frozen swimming pool of a nearby house. She did that in a despaired mood feeling that her life was ending in a very bad way. Her “rescue” was the direct path to her planned death. Nature didn’t foresee butchers and those millions of people wanting to eat their daily steak.

All of a sudden that funny picture turned into a very sad one, at least for me. Cows are very sensitive and emphatic, complex living beings. They earned a good life. All of us adult people shall reflect and think about our dealing with animals. We shall all agree that we don’t need to eat that much cheap meat. We would be much healthier eating less animals. Our planet and the whole worldwide nutritional situation would ameliorate if we decided to follow a more sustainable way of living.

Friendship

Friendship is a big and open notion, like the wide open sea. It is a miraculous feeling being friends. Two different worlds form a common planet. Interesting enough but there is an additional wonder: you don’t have to speak the same language for being friends, you don’t even have to be of the same species. Friendship always is a kind of symbiosis whereupon both living beings have an advantage. What that advantage is shall be and is the very secret of every friendship.

Gross und Klein

haben’s fein. Wer bist du? Lass uns spielen, aber bitte ohne Manieren, die sind für den Menschen. Wir haben’s lieber lustig.

The Crowd

All of us are part of a crowd. And this crowd always is a big complex of differences. We all are different and will always remain so. When you are born and a small child you feel strongly that the world around you is different. Everything outside the self is different indeed. It is a whole other world.

This fact is a chance to understand that crowd, our crowd. Well, not understand in terms of language or common mentality but to understand that differences between human beings and all living beings will always persist. Therefore we simply cannot understand each other in a proper sense. But we can understand that this fact leads us direct to the notion of tolerance. That should be applied to all inhabitants of our planet, including flora and fauna.

Les chats-neige humaines

Winter time is a hard time for all animals. It means physical and mental stress to all those living outside. But nature always was this way. Only we human beings changed these natural laws: we are not anymore used to endure cold weather unless we are sitting in a warm hut drinking some warm tea. All animals living with us got used to our attitudes and live a similar life. But are they fine with such an arrangement?

There is no greater beauty then experiencing the cold playing and running through the snow with ones dog. Doing this in a snowy landscape gives us new ideas and does strengthen our body.

Let’s be like the “chats-neiges humaines” and let’s not mutate into a synthetic being.

Die Nasen

Zwei Nasen treffen und beäugen sich. “Was bist du für eine lange Nase…” “Und du erst!” “Du bist ein ganzes Stück länger als ich.” “Aha.” “Ja, so ist das.” “Mmh.” “Was meinst du?” “Ja.” “Ach, so.” “Nein.” Was nein? “Eben.” So eine Nasengeschichte, wer hätte das gedacht…

Ethics

Nowadays you can find ethics as a notion everywhere: ethics in profession, agricultural ethics, medical ethics, applied ethics and so on. You simply can turn everything into an ethical subject. That’s fine since behind that notion lies a promise of a so called “good” action and point of view. Even though part of my final exams at the university consisted in philosophy and theory of science I would never claim to have a sound knowledge of what all is about those many derivations of ethics.

A few weeks ago I was at an evening event where there was dinner served. I had quite a long conversation with a person who is writing her phD in medical ethics. Besides that she had been for some years working in war areas as a “helping hand” in the organization of the humanitarian work. Waw, I thought, what a life. And she told me: yes, her life changed immensely after all that: it is a life based on ethics strictly. There is no day without ethical background. Waw, I thought again. What a “good” life, full of ethics.

For dinner you could chose a vegetarian or normal (meat containing) menu (without declaration of the origins of that meat). The “ethical” person sitting next to me ate with big pleasure the menu containg meat (young goose) and went on talking about medical ethics and her ethical life. After a time she was acting quite rude correcting the speaker of the evening confronitng him with some additional notions fitting that discourse (even though no one of the public had the slightest knowledge nor the idea of these).

After that evening I asked myself the question: do I lead an ethical life? No, I don’t. Of course, I try to avoid eating meat without declaration and try to choose vegetarian food, I try no to buy too much things produced in countries where the working conditions are abusive, I try to avoid taking plastic bags when shopping, and so on. But in the end there are quite an amount of things I do which are not based on proper ethics.

Ethics is far more than only applied to humanitarian or medical work. Our planet including flora and fauna is suffering a great deal from us human beings. Leading a proper ethical life would mean caring for all these things instead of only talking and writing phDs in ethics.
